Indeed, its cure rate is still very low. Refractory primary neuroblastoma is a form that resists most therapies.<\/p><p>Researchers from Stanford University and UCL, led by the <a href=\"https:\/\/profiles.stanford.edu\/robbie-majzner\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr Robbie Majzner <\/a>and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucl.ac.uk\/child-health\/research\/developmental-biology-and-cancer\/cancer\/john-anderson-research-page\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Prof John Anderson <\/a>are conducting a study to assess how to improve chemoimmunotherapy for patients with this type of neuroblastoma.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c1ebc22 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"c1ebc22\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-46d6896 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"46d6896\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">What is chemoimmunotherapy?<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0f2f5d1 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"0f2f5d1\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>This is a combination of chemotherapy and immunotherapy. The aim is to trigger a patient's immune response to neuroblastoma cells.<\/p><p>Anti-GD2 antibodies have been one of the major clinical breakthroughs of recent years. This form of immunotherapy has increased survival rates.<\/p><p>Indeed, the combination of existing chemotherapeutic agents with anti-GD2 drugs has led to a good clinical response in children whose disease does not respond to chemotherapy alone.<\/p><p><strong>The advantage of this treatment is that it does not rely on destroying tumour cells with specific drugs. These trick the immune system into not destroying them by sending out \"don't eat me\" signals.<\/p><p>The team plans to conduct preclinical studies to optimize current anti-GD2 chemoimmunotherapy and introduce a novel anti-CD47 agent into this regimen.
